Assignment No. 2 Projects

Assignment No. 2 Projects :

These assignments are split by First Letter of your Last Name.  If you would like a different project, you can either take one of the alternatives or trade your project with someone else in class.  You MUST inform me that you are trading projects so that I may mark it down as such.  In the event of a trade, BOTH parties must write the projects being traded in the comments below.

The project selected will also be part of Assignments No. 5 + 6 (Rhino Modeling Assignments). I suggest that you work together with anyone else that has the same building so that you may, together, find any relevant drawings / elevations / photographs / books to share.  However, all drawings and work turned in must be YOUR OWN.

  1. So what if the plans and sections for the Chemosphere do not have a scale to them? I've looked everywhere.

    1. You may draw it to the best of your ability, using e reference point such as a door for scale. The minimum height for a door should be 6'-8".

However, this is a well-known residence with a vast amount of sources displaying multiple elevations, plans and images for the residence; most of these should have a scale within a drawing or actual dimensions on a drawing. Try searching deeper in Google for dimensions, online libraries, or visiting the FIU (or other) libraries. I am certain that you will find multiple relevant and helpful source materials.

  2. I am a little confused on how to use the layers assigned. I know the drawings have different lineweight and by using the layers we can show them when printing it. However how do i know which line goes to what layer. for example there are 6elev layers when do we use that. and what is cbs? win? and dim?.Also if we draw doors or windows on plan and elevation do we use those door and windows layers?

    1. -Elevation 1-6 represents closest to you to furthest. Magenta, being the thickest line weight, would be the closest. Details within, such as inner door frames and inner mullions of windows, line weight. Details on walls, wall screeds, door knobs, etc. should be the lightest line weight (color 8, grey).

      -CBS = Concrete Block Structure

      -Win = Windows

      -Dim = Dimensions

-Use Elev 1-6 in the elevations. Use cbs, window, door, step, etc. layers in the floor plans. Floor plans represent what is being cut through versus what is in the space. Elevations measure objects / building distances from you and similar details within and throughout their facades. The drawings should reflect this.

  3. What will be the alternative buildings?

  4. Do all of the plans and elevations have to be on the same 11 x 17 sheet? Or can they be printed individually?

    1. Either way is fine. If they all fit, you may post all 4 in one sheet. You may also pair them in 2 elevations per sheet.

  5. I'm working on the Umbrella House, and just noticed that there are two different Umbrella homes. Now, I'm having trouble finding the UMBRELLA HOUSE by PAUL RUDOLPH. I keep finding detailed plans to another Umbrella House in California, inspired by Rudolph's Umbrella home. Can anyone please help me find it? Or are they both the same? I've even checked the FIU Library... THANKS!
